June 7, 2005
SHANGHAI -- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has named Maurice Tan to the position of Vice President, Marketing for its Asia/Pacific Region headquartered in Shanghai, China.
"We are pleased to have Maurice take on a strategic role to further Goodyear's presence in this region," said Pierre Cohade, president of Goodyear's Asia/Pacific region. "He brings a wealth of experience in retail marketing of consumer products for Nokia, PepsiCo and Mars that will prove extremely valuable for Goodyear."
In his role with Goodyear, Tan's responsibilities will include building strong Goodyear brand awareness throughout Asia/Pacific, developing the Goodyear retail network, and fueling market share gains by accelerating the launch of innovative products and services.
Tan joins Goodyear from Nokia, where he was vice president of marketing for the Global Entry Business Line, developing worldwide marketing campaigns for mobile entry products targeting low-penetration markets. While in that role, Tan accomplished a turnaround by revising the company's brand strategy, channel marketing, product campaign and retail marketing strategy.
Prior to that, Tan was marketing director, Greater China, for PepsiCo Beverage International, where he was responsible for its trademark brand, accounting for 70 percent of the business in the second largest Pepsi market. Before joining PepsiCo, Tan was national sales manager for Central China at Mars Inc., where he drove its snack food business to a dominant position, and pioneered its pet food category in grocery chains. Tan began his career with McDonald's, where he helped start the company's first and largest restaurant in Beijing.
Tan earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from the National University of Singapore, and an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from China-Europe International Business School.
