Davis-Standard and Merritt Brands Merge for First Joint Extrusion System
December 29 , 2005
The acquisition of Merritt Extruder Corporation last summer is quickly proving beneficial for Davis-Standard, LLC. The company recently sold its first joint Davis-Standard and Merritt extrusion system to a major wire and cable manufacturer. The system integrates Davis-Standard extruders with Merritt wire handling equipment including capstans, large 96-inch (2,400mm) payoffs and take-ups and 60 to 80-inch (1,524 to 2,000mm) caterpillars. The Merritt equipment is part of the Davis Electric wire and cable product line.
"Integrating Merritt equipment into our product offering is a big advantage because we're able to offer a full service solution at a competitive price," said John Zachow, business manager of Davis-Standard's wire and cable systems group. "There is a lot of synergy between the Davis-Standard and Merritt brands, giving customers added technical expertise and assurance their system will be up and operational in short order."
Prior to the Merritt acquisition, Davis-Standard outsourced large wire handling equipment because supplying sizeable payoffs, take-ups and caterpillars was not cost effective for the company to do in house. In this specific case, being able to offer payoffs and take-ups that can handle up to 30,000 pounds (13,608 kg) was especially beneficial for the customer's specialized application.
Jim Murphy, Davis-Standard vice president added, "This is the first of many systems, not just wire and cable, where customers will have the benefit of combined Davis-Standard and Merritt technology."
