RPC Formatec has provided its injection moulding expertise to manufacture the casing of biozoom, a unique diagnostic solution devised by Opsolution Spectroscopic Systems GmbH that utilises the technology of Carl Zeiss.
biozoom is a new, revolutionary and user-friendly method of measuring the body's key biometric parameters by scanning the surface of the skin. Results are sent via Bluetooth to the user's mobile phone in a matter of seconds.
RPC Formatec was asked to manufacture the complex plastic casing after being recommended to Opsolution Spectroscopic Systems GmbH for the reliabilty and precision of its tooling. Comprising eight ABS parts, the shell houses all of the optical and electronic components required.
Levels of water, cytochrome (an enzyme in the body) and body fat are measured by the biozoom scanner, incorporating high-tech optics by Carl Zeiss, to deliver a personalised assessment of well-being and fitness, and how these can be improved.
The advantage of spectroscopic measurements, which analyse the chemical composition of substances by investigating how light is absorbed or reflected by them, is that the skin is not punctured. In addition, the simple functionality of the biozoom device has been developed to enable its use by people with no prior knowledge of the technology, whilst its practical size makes it ideal for using on the move.
The ergonomic, hand-held design is similar to a PC mouse and enables the user to easily pass the scanner over the upper arm to take measurements of cytochrome and water, or on other parts of the body where fat measurements are needed.
RPC Formatec believes that biozoom represents an exciting new future in medical diagnosis. The technology will allow the pharmaceutical industry to develop diagnostic tests for a range of conditions that are safe, fast and highly convenient for the user.
