Demag Plastics Group to Present Screw Cap Moulding System at Interplastica 2007
Nov 24, 2006
At the Interplastica Plastics Trade Fair to be held in Moscow from January 30 to February 2, 2007, Mannesmann Demag Plastservice, Moscow, will be exhibiting a high-performance injection moulding machine of the Demag Plastics Group based in Schwaig, Germany. The machine on show at the Krasnaya Presnya Exhibition Centre will be an EL-EXIS S 200 incorporated in a production cell to produce screw caps for disposable PET bottles for carbonated soft drinks.
The EL-EXIS S 200/560-1450 (2,000 kN clamping force, 560 mm distance between tiebars, size 1450 injection unit) will be equipped with the function package for the production of caps and closures. The package includes such features as ejector control and core pull functions independent of the closing motion, plastication at mini-mum backpressure, and a cavity inspection function.
The standard equipment of the EL-EXIS S further includes parallel movements of all cycle-time-critical elements. Linear guides of extremely robust design with roller-mounted supports of the moving platen ensure excellent, sustained parallelism of the mould clamping platen coupled with shortest cycle times. The mould-protection function of the EL-EXIS S, which is standard and permits sensitive adjustment, provides optimal protection of the injection mould.
The high-performance plasticising unit with a 60-mm barrier screw and 25 D length of highly wear-resistant powdered-metal construction is designed to deliver PE-HD with a melt flow index (MFI) < 2g/10 min as the usual material for screw caps in an eminently homogenous melt quality. The maximum injection pressure available of 2,050 bar ensures quick cavity filling and neat contouring of the very small ligaments of the tamper-evident seals of the closures.
The 48-cavity mould was designed and built by Schottli AG of Diessenhofen, Switzerland. Schottli's proprietary collet-chuck technology enables the 48 cavities in the mould to be arranged extremely close together, resulting in a most compact design. Since the mould - as most injection moulds for closures and screw caps - is operated with cooling water temperatures of 12 °C maximum, a dry air system by Eisbar Trockentechnik GmbH of Gotzis, Austria, is installed over the clamping unit of the IM machine to prevent condensate forming on the mould halves.
Separation of start-up scrap and any faulty parts is by a rapid-response segregation unit by Max Petek Reinraumtechnik of Radolfzell, Germany. With extremely short cycle times, the injection moulding machine monitors certain process parameters in each cycle with predefined tolerance limits and actuates the segregation unit as required.
Even if the articles of the last shot should not have been ejected, unproblematic starting will be possible even after an extended shut-down of the machine thanks to the increased ejector force which will readily strip off any screw caps that may have shrunk onto the cores.
Demag's long tradition in Russia
With its subsidiary Mannesmann Demag Plastservice, Demag Plastics Group has for many years been market leader in the Russian injection moulding machine market. Based in Moscow, Mannesmann Demag Plastservice has sales offices and service branches in all economically important regions of Russia.
Demag Plastics Group in profile
Demag Plastics Group has more than 50 years experience in the development of injection moulding technology, manufacturing injection moulding machines of the "Demag" brand with clamping forces between 250 kN and 30,000 kN. Apart from modular standard machines, the company's range includes specialised machines for such important areas as multi-component and fast-cycling injection moulding. With production establishments in Schwaig and Wiehe (both in Germany), China, the USA and a joint venture in India as well as a close-knit sales and service network, Demag Plastics is maintaining an effective market presence across the world.
The "Packaging Team"
In October 2006, Demag Plastics Group established its "Packaging Team" to provide hands-on and professional consultancy and sales support to manufacturers of plastic packaging articles. Pooling the skills of experts in product management, application engineering, automation, service and sales, the interdisciplinary team targets producers of packaging articles for the food and building industries as well as manufacturers of screw caps and closures. With its packaging team, Demag Plastics Group offers orchestrated and total solutions based on excellent machine building, high-performance moulds, and effective and flexible automation.
