Cabot Shows Latest Carbon Blacks for Plastics at NPE
February 27 , 2006
Cabot Corporation, a producer of fine particles, will be exhibiting its carbon black products at the 2006 NPE. Cabot's specialty carbon blacks are used in a number of plastics markets to impart UV protection, color and conductivity.
BLACK PEARLS® 4350 and BLACK PEARLS 4750 are two high-purity furnace blacks that have been specially developed to comply with US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards for materials used to color polymers for indirect contact with food. These grades are produced using state-of-the-art production systems with strict process controls to consistently meet FDA limits of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and benzo(a)pyrene.
Carbon blacks directly impact the color, odor, weatherability, and long-lasting mechanical strength of plastic pipes for potable water and gas distribution. P-type blacks are recommended for these applications. Cabot has developed a new P-type carbon black, ELFTEX® P100, for pressure pipe applications. Cabot Corporation will aim at engaging plastics manufacturers to determine if they know what type of carbon black is being used in their critical food contact and potable pipe applications.
For electrostatic discharge (ESD) applications VULCAN® XC72, VULCAN XC605 and VULCAN XC305 are being promoted.
Cabot Corporation is on booth 5080 at NPE 2006, Chicago.
