GE - Plastics Selects Pavilion Technologies For Second Polycarbonate Line

AUSTIN, TX -- Pavilion Technologies, a world leader in model-based software, announced the world's largest manufacturer of polycarbonate, GE - Plastics, a division of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), selected Pavilion Technologies' model predictive control (MPC) polymer control solution for a second polycarbonate line at their manufacturing facility in Cartagena, Spain. Since 2003, GE - Plastics has deployed Pavilion's solution on two LEXAN® polycarbonate production lines at this site to continuously reduce variable costs and enhance product quality. This project marks the 82nd polymer line to adopt Pavilion's polymer control solution, reinforcing Pavilion's position as the leading supplier to the polymer industry.

Pavilion's solution was deployed at the LX1 plant where GE produces LEXAN® polycarbonate resin. Introduced 40 years ago as the world's first polycarbonate, LEXAN® is a high-performance plastic offered in more than 500 different grades. LEXAN® resin provides designers with new opportunities for innovative, cost-effective products such as eyewear, compact discs, kitchen containers and business equipment.
GE - Plastics will take advantage of Pavilion8's hybrid modeling and end-point control capabilities to better manage a portfolio of LEXAN® products and specifications from steady-state through transition. This approach will further reduce transition times, improve production efficiency and reduce waste product created during transitions.
