At the ESEF 2006 plastics exhibition (March 14 - 17, 2006) in Utrecht / The Netherlands, BOY provided an impressive demonstration and exceptionally compact solution by presenting their smallest high precision injection moulding machines.
In BOY's Dutch agents' booth TRS Kunststoftechniek B.V., a BOY 12 A manufactured tiny micro gears with a part weight of only 0.0009 g. "The visitors were able to observe the entire parts handling process that took place under the safety cage of the BOY 12 A. The process included the removal, sorting, and placement of the parts via a cavity-sorting suction system. The gate was also removed. Because we were able to position the newly developed integral picker under the cage, the automation did not exceed the compact floor space requirement of the BOY 12 (1.7 m2;)", explained Ton de Jager, managing director of TRS.
The BOY 12 A was equipped with the world's only 12 mm plasticizing unit. This 12mm unit enables shot volumes well below 0.1 Cm3;. Compared to customary 14mm plasticizing units, the BOY 12 A unit reduces the material dwell time by 50 percent. This has clear advantages, especially with heat-sensitive materials. The optimized screw geometry is an additional advantage of this plasticizing unit.
With its stable machine frame design, injection unit and the highly precise linear guided clamping unit, the BOY 12 again proved suitable for continuous industrial operation. The machine's reproducibility and high precision capabilities were effectively demonstrated with the manufacture of the tiny micro gear wheels and was ensured by the high-end A series Procan CT control. In addition to its ability to strictly control the metering stroke and melt cushion, the Procan CT is designed with touchscreen technology that greatly simplifies its operation.
The aim of the exhibition was reached
Because of the impressive performance and the promising talks during the four days of the exhibition, TRS and BOY expect an extremely positive future for BOY in the Dutch market.
