Position of Chinese camphor
Chinese camphor acts an important role in the global camphor market. China is the largest production country of natural camphor and synthetic camphor in the world, and about 58.9% of Chinese camphor was exported in 2002.
Production
Many producers in Guangxi province have stopped camphor production in recent years, due to the slack market. There are 9 active producers of natural camphor and 8 active synthetic producers, and the total capacity reached 25,580t/a as of October 2003. It is a trend that some large manufacturers will dominate China's camphor production in the future.
Fast expanding
Camphor has been a strong chemical item in China for many years. The rapid growth & expansion has been witnessed in camphor industry, especially since 2001 when China entered the WTO.
Key factors
The development of Chinese camphor industry is mainly influenced by Chinese gum turpentine industry and overseas demand.
