China Holds Lion’s Share of Global Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) Production Volume

Historically the world hydrogen peroxide (HP) market was keeping to a stable upward trend. However, as many other world markets it was negatively influenced by the global economic crisis; and in 2008-2009 a remarkable decrease was registered in terms of production volume. However, the year 2010 was marked as the begging of the recovery trend, and since 2010 the global hydrogen peroxide market has been gaining momentum.

As of 2013, the world hydrogen peroxide supply volume grew by over 150 thousand tonnes in comparison with 2012 (approximately 3.7% YoY growth) and almost reached the 4.2 million tonnes mark. The largest contribution to the growth of the world hydrogen peroxide production was made by the APAC region, and especially China. China is an absolute leader within the marketplace, accounting for more than 35.5% of the overall production volume of hydrogen peroxide. It is followed by such countries as the USA, Belgium, Thailand and Canada.

Solvay, Evonik Industries, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical, Arkema, Qingdao Lasheng, Kingboard Chemical Holdings and FMC Corp are amid the strongest payers involved in the global hydrogen peroxide market.

The world hydrogen peroxide consumption witnessed a stable increase during the past several years, driven primarily by the rocketing demand from the paper and pulp industry, especially across the APAC and Latin American regions. In 2013, for instance, the volume of the global hydrogen peroxide consumption went beyond 4.18 million tonnes. In the same year, APAC was the top consumer.

Currently, Europe ranks as the first exporter and importer of hydrogen peroxide in the world.

The worldwide market for hydrogen peroxide will likely grow at a steady pace in the upcoming years, driven primarily by the rising demand from the developing regions along with panned capacity additions worldwide. In 2018, for instance, the volume of the global hydrogen peroxide production is anticipated to exceed 4.85 million tonnes.
