Overall Ethyl Acetate Supply Registered 4% YoY Increase in 2012

During 2004-2011, the global production of ethyl acetate (ETAC) grew by over 80% and exceeded 3 million tonnes in 2011. In 2012, the overall ETAC supply registered a 4% YoY increase and touched the 3.12 million-tonne mark. In the same year, Asia-Pacific captured the biggest share of the global production volume – over 2.44 million tonnes. China is an unrivalled leader of the world ETAC market, accounting for over half of the global ETAC production. It is followed by India, the UK, Japan and Brazil. The combined ETAC supply volume stood at more than 2.57 million tonnes in 2012.

Jiangmen Handsome Chemical Development Ltd., Wuxi Baichuan Chemical Industrial Co, Ineos, Jiangsu Sopo (Group) Co Ltd, Shanghai Wujing Chemical Plant, Golden Yinmeng Group, Rhodia Brasil Ltda, Celanese, Jubilant Life Sciences Limited, Laxmi Organic Industries Ltd and Somaiya Group are among the companies enjoying substantial shares of the global ETAC market.

The world annual ETAC production capacity was estimated at more than 4.77 million tonnes in 2012, with Asia calling for just over 79% share of the overall figure.

Global ethyl acetate (ETAC) production capacity by region, 2012

In 2004, global ETAC consumption grew by almost 8%, showing an impressive increase after the recessionary years (2008-2009). In 2012, it increased by approximately 200,000 tonnes compared to the previous year. In the same year, Asia-Pacific ranked as the world’s leading ETAC consumer with 70% share of the overall consumption volume. The solvents coatings industry was the major ETAC end-use sector, which consumed nearly 65% of the total production volume in 2012. The printings inks and process solvents industries are also important ETAC end-use sectors.

Worldwide, ETAC production is poised to grow by around 4.5% annually in the upcoming years, driven by the rising capacity utilization rates in the existing facilities. The overall ETAC supply volume is likely to surpass the 3.5 million tonnes mark in 2015. Asia is expected to maintain its leadership in the world ETAC market in the offing.
