Meantime, Canada, the US, China, Finland and Brazil were the top five sodium chlorate producing countries; their combined share of the world’s total output was equivalent to 82.5%.

In 2012, North America accounted for approximately half of the world’s total demand for sodium chlorate. Currently, global sodium chlorate demand is driven by the emerging regions of Asia and Latin America. At present, pulp and paper industry is the major end-use sector for sodium chlorate; in 2012, it consumed around 95% of the annual supply volume of sodium chlorate.
In 2012, the global sodium chlorate foreign trade amounted to USD 650 million. In the same year, North America was the leading exporter and importer of sodium chlorate.
Global sodium chlorate production is poised for healthy growth in the years ahead, driven by the strong demand for the product alongside new capacity additions. In 2017, the world sodium chlorate production is forecast to reach 4 million tonnes.
